Who knows the difference between these two oils? And no, I'm not talking about the brand or the quality....
To start off Lime essential oil is one of my favorites! Such a bright uplifting aroma, I love to add it to some salsa, or use it in cleaning products. But when applying to the skin we must be careful! Lime is very phototoxic, meaning it can cause full thickness sunburn in a matter of minutes (phytophotodermatitis)! When lime rinds are cold pressed to extract the essential oil, there is a chemical component (from the furanocoumarins chemical family) that passes into the oil that creates this phototoxic effect. However, if the rinds are steam distilled this chemical does not enter the oil and we are free and clear to massage this wonderful oil all over our bodies and then go lay in the sun without harm!
This is the difference!!
While I love doTERRA, they sell cold pressed lime EO, while Aromatics International, another spectacular company that's based in Montana, sells distilled lime EO.
It's important to know what you're getting no matter what company you buy from, and it's also ok to support multiple companies.
